King Kong Jane

While shooting for a good friends wedding, a group of guys approached me to take an informal shot of them together as the wedding band. Since the bride and groom were busy with last minute preparations and the sun was setting nicely beyond the reception grounds… Why not ?! As it turns out the guys were not your average wedding band…

As it turns out, the band was none other than King Kong Jane, one of Singapore’s best indie rock bands who’ve performed at Baybeats 2007 and won the Powerjam band competition the following year. Their achievements include being named Best English Local Act in The Sunday Times, and having their single “If It Wasn’t For You” chosen by radio station Power 98 as one of the the year’s Top 5 Local Songs.

Back to the technical aspects, the shot was taken with an on camera 580ex2 speedlite. ( It was all I had with me at the time ) Not one to waste a good sunset ( although I did enhance the colours to make the picture POP), we went to the edge of the wedding grounds and took the group picture. Expose for the sunset then bring the silhouetted band back with the on camera flash. A pretty cool impromptu group portrait I think !
